There are lots of different forms of massage and it can often be confusing on how to choose what’s right for you. Different treatments can be good for different reasons. Here’s ten things massage can help with and what might be the best treatment.

1. Relieve stress and anxiety

Whether tension has built up from stress or causing your stress, massage is an effective way to relieve that tension. Relaxation massage is also a great way to lower the heart rate, and connect your body and mind – a great mindfulness activity.

2. Relieve lower back pain

Remedial massage is a great way to alleviate lower back pain or any muscular pain that may be from poor posture or repetitive movement.

3. Relieve tension headaches

The muscles around the neck, face and shoulders can lead to tension headaches in the scalp, face and back of the neck. Remedial massage and dry needling are great ways to help alleviate that pain

4. Improve flexibility & mobility

Remedial massage can use trigger point and various stretching techniques to ease muscle tension that may be causing a loss of range through the joint.

5. Reduce depression

Regular relaxation massage can help return our body to homeostasis and in turn help our bodies balance out good and bad hormones.

6. Speed up your recovery from a soft tissue injury

Stretches and heat can help you recover from a muscle tear but massage can help that muscle heal properly and speed up the recovery process, getting you back to work or sport faster, and pain free.

7. Ease chronic pain

Regular massage can promote good hormones and ease muscle tension that may build up over time with chronic pain. Conditions like arthritis or fibromyalgia can be difficult to tackle on your own and some relaxation and muscle tension relief will help ease your pain.

8. Improve skin tone & circulation

Massage helps improve circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids around the body. Moving stagnant fluids can help flush and heal the skin and reduce swelling in joints and the extremities.

9. Boost your immune system

Manual lymphatic drainage and relaxation can help flush out stagnant fluids and help the lymphatic system rid you of infections, keeping you healthy and infection free.

10. Switch off for one whole hour!

What could be better than getting the massage you need and having one whole hour to yourself. I’m happy to chat but if you need an hour of quiet time, I’m more than happy to provide that for you too. Don’t forget, each massage is tailored to you, so if you like a firm massage but want full body relaxation, then I can provide that. Same goes, if you have an injury that needs treating but don’t like deep tissue massage, I can cater to that too. This is about you, and what you need from your massage!

What is the right kind of massage for you?

Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage is a combination of deep tissue, trigger point release and myofascial release techniques. Depending on your needs I may recommend dry needling and/or cupping. Usually remedial massage is used to correct a muscular issue such as sporting injury, pain and tension from poor posture or managing ongoing chronic pain.

Relaxation Massage
Relaxation is usually a full or part body Swedish massage. Swedish massage is characterised with long fluid rhythmic strokes with oil on the skin. It’s great for improving circulation, lowering the heart heart rate and overall relaxation.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specific technic to remove lymphatic fluid built up in the body. This often happens after an injury or surgery, or occasionally when the lymphatic system is overloaded by infection. It is a very slow and gentle technique but can provide effective results in a short amount of time.

Pre and Post Natal Massage
Remedial or relaxation massage techniques can be tailored to your needs throughout your pregnancy. Massage is a safe and effective way to manage the changes and tensions in your body as your baby grows or after the birth of your baby.
